The story of Dorothy Valworth

In 2002, Linda Westcott Johnson founded Dorothy Valworth to launch her vintage-inspired convertible handbags. She chose the company name as an homage to the strong, spirited, confident woman who was her grandmother.

“Everything I know of style and individuality, I learned from her,” says Linda.
“This company is made in her image.”

The bag itself offers a versatility Linda says her grandmother would love. “With my convertible handbags, you can change your bag without changing your bag. And you never have to worry where you’ve left your favorite lipstick !”

The whimsical touch of butterfly clasps were inspired by a beloved silver filigree pin Linda’s grandmother wore. The butterfly motif is subtly repeated in the company logo, the satin lining, and almost every element of presentation and packaging. “The butterfly is more than emblematic of my grandmother’s grace and beauty; it signifies the spirit of change which Dorothy Valworth handbags bring to the wardrobes of our customers.”

Named for one woman, Dorothy Valworth is a salute to sophisticated, elegant, successful women of all ages. It’s a point of view that says fashion can be cheeky and poised, subtle and gregarious, individual and fun.

Dorothy Valworth stood for everyday glamour. Today’s Dorothy Valworth is you.

Linda's favorite vintage store is Vanessa's Vintage on N. Charles Street in Baltimore's Federal Hill District. "She has impeccable taste and you could shop in her little store for days and not see everything! Ask her about the story of when she first showed me the vintage bag and how she's been watching this product evolve ever since."
